The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) was refocused in 2026 under the province's "Look West" strategy. British Columbia announced the updates on April 23, 2026 and an updated Skills Immigration Program Guide took effect on May 28, 2026, tying nominations more directly to the labour gaps the province says it most needs to fill.

The program is now organized around three objectives: Care, Build, and Innovate. Care strengthens health care and the broader care economy, Build supports the trades and major infrastructure projects, and Innovate keeps British Columbia competitive in knowledge-driven sectors. These objectives act as a lens for which talent the program prioritizes rather than separate streams. BC PNP still uses a points-based Expression of Interest system to score and invite candidates.

The most concrete part of the update is who the program prioritizes: select health care occupations, certified early childhood educators, veterinarians and veterinary technologists working toward Canadian certification, and French-speaking teachers in the public K-12 school system. Federal cuts to provincial nominee allocations under the 2026-2028 Immigration Levels Plan mean British Columbia has fewer spots and is directing them toward these priorities. Vancouver and Victoria remain major destinations, and the province's economy spans health care, technology, construction, film, forestry, and tourism.
