About Study Permit

Canada is home to world-renowned universities and colleges. A study permit allows you to pursue your education while gaining valuable Canadian experience.

For 2026, Canada will issue up to 408,000 study permits (155,000 for new international students). Master's and doctoral students at public institutions are now exempt from Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) requirements. After graduation, you may be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Note: The Student Direct Stream (SDS) was discontinued on November 8, 2024. All study permit applications now go through the regular stream.
