Super Visa applications are currently taking 60-120 days to process in 2026, depending on the applicant's country of residence and application volume at the processing visa office. The Super Visa is a multi-entry visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time without needing to renew their status. The visa itself is valid for up to 10 years or until the passport expires.
Unlike regular visitor visas, the Super Visa has specific additional requirements: the applicant must have Canadian medical insurance coverage of at least $100,000 for their entire stay (purchased from a Canadian insurance company), the Canadian child or grandchild must meet minimum income requirements (Low Income Cut-Off + 30% for their household size including visitors), and applicants must undergo an Immigration Medical Examination (IME) to ensure they are admissible from a health perspective.
Processing times vary by country, with applications from countries requiring biometrics and additional security screening taking longer. The medical exam must be completed by a panel physician approved by IRCC, and results are typically valid for 12 months. The medical insurance policy must be valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry to Canada and be purchased before applying. Applications missing any required documents or with insufficient financial proof will be refused.
