About the OINP
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is highly competitive due to Ontario's position as Canada's most populous province and economic center. Toronto, Ottawa, and other major cities attract skilled workers from around the world.
Ontario's Human Capital Priorities stream is particularly notable as it targets high-scoring Express Entry candidates who meet Ontario's labor needs. The province issues Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to Express Entry candidates, giving them an opportunity to apply.

How do I get a Notification of Interest from OINP?
You cannot apply directly. Create an Express Entry profile and ensure your information is complete. Ontario searches the pool and sends NOIs to candidates who meet their criteria. Having in-demand skills, high CRS scores, and Ontario connections increases your chances.
Is OINP competitive?
Yes, OINP is one of the most competitive provincial programs due to Ontario's popularity. Human Capital Priorities draws have historically targeted higher CRS scores. However, the Masters and PhD streams have been accessible for eligible graduates.
Can I apply to OINP without Express Entry?
Yes, the Employer Job Offer streams and Graduate streams do not require an Express Entry profile. These are processed as "base" nominations with longer federal processing times (12-18 months vs 6 months for EE-linked).
What are the OINP processing times?
Provincial processing takes 30 to 90 days depending on the stream and application volume. After nomination, Express Entry-linked applications are processed in about 6 months. Base applications take 12 to 18 months.
Do I need to live in Ontario?
For most streams, you need to demonstrate genuine intention to live in Ontario. Graduate streams require that you lived in Ontario during your studies. After getting PR, you can legally live anywhere in Canada, but OINP expects genuine settlement intent.
